NFPA 1030 Updates

NFPA 1030, Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Prevention Program Positions, provides minimum core and mission-specific JPRs for individuals in those roles or anyone involved with their training, hiring, or evaluation.

All NFPA standards are revised and updated every three to five years. As such, all of our courses based on NFPA 1030 will transition to the updated curriculum on January 1, 2025. These levels include the Inspector series, Plans Examiner, Public Fire and Life Safety Educator, and Public Information Officer.

Key changes in the 2024 edition include: defining important terms clearly and consistently, enhancing fire marshal skills to better reflect their duties, and introducing the new role of first responder inspector based on a detailed analysis of job needs. This update also streamlines the positions of plan examiners into a single role and revises NFPA 1035 to promote cultural competency and inclusivity among fire prevention professionals. Additionally, the standard now incorporates new technologies such as social media and electronic communications to stay current with evolving practices in fire prevention.
