Alabama Fire Service Briefing
Join us for a collaborative meeting designed for the entire Alabama fire service community, where we’ll share timely updates, discuss challenges and solutions, and exchange information that supports safer, more effective operations statewide. NFPA 1010 Standards Consolidation: Implications for Recruit Firefighter Training in Alabama
After June 1, 2026, certifications for NFPA 1001 will no longer be issued, and the new required textbook will be IFSTA’s Essentials of Firefighting, 8th Edition. NFPA has added a new entry-level Fire Support Person designation (70 hours, 29 JPR task book, HM/WMD Awareness, with online prerequisites), along with updates to HM/WMD, NIMS, TIMS, Peer Support, and Invisible Disabilities training. The Certified Volunteer Firefighter program (50 hours) will require a physical statement, skills-based training, task book completion, and live fire testing conducted by AFC-designated test teams. 🔗(Read more)

Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month – January 2026
Firefighter Cancer Awareness Month is focusing on “Doing It Right.” This includes best practices to reduce cancer in the fire service.
