Responder Safety Awareness During Disaster Response

This discussion-driven course focuses on the safety and health concerns of first responders during natural disaster responses, including hurricanes, tornadoes, and floods. Participants will learn to identify specific hazards associated with these events and how to mitigate risks effectively. The course will introduce and utilize the NIMS 215A Safety Analysis form as a tool for assessing on-site hazards. Key topics include heat stress, injuries from unstable surfaces and debris, harmful dust exposure, confined space dangers, chemical hazards, contaminated water, electrical hazards, infectious diseases, and traumatic stress injuries.
