Fire Officer I

This course is based on NFPA 1021: Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications, 2020 Edition. The course identifies the requirements necessary to perform the duties of a first line supervisor. This course introduces the student to the basic concepts of management and supervision by concentration on such topics as Organizational Structure, Communication Skills, Human Resource Management, Public Relations, Planning, Emergency Service Delivery, and Safety.

In response to the 2025 update of NFPA 1020 the Fire Officer I course will be transitioning to: IFSTA’s, Fire and Emergency Services Company Officer, Seventh Edition textbook. These changes will take effect in the Spring of 2027 and will impact content and certification requirements.
