Critical Care Academy
The majority of the Critical Care Academy can be completed at the station or in the comfort of your home. The coursework is crafted as an online LMS distance-learning class and includes in-person physician led skill labs, clinical rotations shadowing ED/ICU physicians and an in-person 4-day exam prep class at the end of the course. Registrants must be self-motivated to complete the coursework, including tests, to build a solid foundation prior to taking the FP-C/CC-P/CFRN exam and be able to attend the required 72 hours of clinical rotations that will be located at UAB or UAB affiliated hospitals. Registrants must also be able to attend the majority of the in-person physician led skill labs that will take place at a minimum of once a month here at the AFC campus or UAB located in Birmingham, AL. This 100-hour course is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Prehospital Continuing Education (CAPCE) which also allows current certified critical care providers to gain their con ed hours for recertification. It includes podcast episodes, case studies, and real-world knowledge to prepare you for the FP-C/CC-P test administered by IBSC. The course begins on October 5th, 2026 and ends May 28th, 2027. Registration is $600, which includes course material for two years, attendance of skill labs, clinical rotations and reserves a seat at the in-person 4-day exam prep that ends with you taking your FP-C exam right here on the AFC campus!
The Critical Care Academy serves as:
– Preparation for the International Board of Specialty Certification (IBSC)’s Flight Paramedic Certification (FP-C) test
– Preparation for the IBSC’s Critical Care Paramedic (CCP) Certification test
– Preparation for the BCEN Certified Flight Registered Nurse (CFRN) test
– A CAPCE accredited program for those already certified as FP-C or CC-P to gain their continuing education recertification hours
– A CAPCE accredited program for NREMT paramedics to gain their continuing education recertification hours
– 100-hour Critical Care Academy course (a $500 value!)
– Current EMS professionals that wish to expand their knowledge
