CHARGE into fire safety: How will your department participate in Fire Prevention Week?

Fire Prevention Week is October 4-10, and this year’s theme is “Charge into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.”

As your department plans its outreach, we wanted to share several easy ways to participate. Use the ideas that best fit your department, available resources, and community. NFPA offers videos, activities, educational materials, and other resources at FPW.org.

Here are some simple ways to get started:

  • Watch the FPW webinar on demand. Check out the new thermal runaway experiment video and bookmark the FPW video playlist.
  • Conduct a school visit, station open house, or charging-safety demonstration. Try Speed Bingo or Kahoot from the 30-minute lesson for adults and high school students.
  • Download the FPW email signature, add it to your emails, and share FPW content using #FirePreventionWeek.
  • Explore FPW products that can help share this year’s “Safe Charging Is a Superpower” message.
  • “One Tip From Our Crew” videos: Have a firefighter from your department record a short vertical video sharing a single prevention tip every day. No editing should be required! Tag a neighboring department (or two) to challenge to participate next.
  • Share a crew photo supporting Fire Prevention Week with a safe-charging message.
  • Download the Digital & Social Media Toolkit. Post an official FPW graphic or charging-safety message. Ask a school, library, business, or community organization to share a safety message. There are printable resources as well!
  • Share a news release with local media.
  • Request a proclamation from your mayor.
  • Add FPW information to your website, newsletter, or electronic station sign.

Feel free to tag the Alabama Fire College and use #FirePreventionWeek so we can help amplify your message. Whether your department shares one post or coordinates several community activities, every effort helps provide residents with important information about lithium-ion batteries and safe charging practices. Thank you for supporting Fire Prevention Week and helping keep our communities safe.
