Alabama Stands Ready: Join ReadySunday This September

At the Alabama Fire College, we know preparedness begins long before an emergency occurs. It starts with informed families, equipped organizations, and communities ready to respond together.

That’s why we encourage Alabama’s houses of worship and community organizations to participate in ReadySunday on any Sunday in September.

September is National Preparedness Month, and the 2026 theme is “Alabama Stands Ready.” ReadySunday turns that message into action by helping organizations begin important conversations about emergency preparedness.

What Is ReadySunday?

ReadySunday is a ReadyAlabama initiative designed for faith-based and community organizations. It encourages individuals and families to take practical steps to prepare their homes, businesses, schools, communities, and houses of worship for emergencies.

Participating is free, and ReadyAlabama provides resources that can be customized to meet your organization’s needs.

How Your Organization Can Participate

Choose any Sunday in September and make preparedness part of your organization’s activities. You can:

  • Register your organization at ServeAlabama.gov to receive downloadable ReadySunday resources.
  • Share preparedness information through newsletters, websites, email updates, bulletin boards, and social media.
  • Provide families with emergency-planning resources that can help them prepare for disasters.
  • Use free FEMA publications available through Ready.gov/Publications.
  • Connect with Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster, or VOAD, in your community.
  • Share additional preparedness guidance from ReadyAlabama.gov and Ready.gov.

Why Your Leadership Matters

Faith-based and community organizations play an essential role before, during, and after disasters. In times of crisis, people often turn to trusted local organizations for guidance, comfort, resources, and support.

By working together, community leaders, emergency professionals, volunteers, and government agencies can help more Alabamians understand the risks they face and prepare before disaster strikes.

Organizations interested in connecting with Alabama VOAD can visit alvoad.org or email info@alvoad.org.

Take the First Step Today

We may not know when the next emergency will occur or what form it will take, but we can prepare for it now. Our families, neighbors, congregations, and communities depend on it.

The Alabama Fire College encourages faith-based and community organizations across the state to make ReadySunday part of their September plans. Together, we can help ensure that Alabama stands ready.
