The Alabama Smoke Diver course is designed for Fire Fighters wishing to sharpen their current skills with realistic training and to learn new skills and techniques that will assist them throughout their career. This is a challenging course involving multiple facets of the firefighting profession. Students will participate in physically and mentally taxing exercises in multiple environments. Each day will begin with a fitness event and is followed by drill field evolutions and scenarios that include heat, smoke, and live fire training. The student should recognize that the majority of the course will take place on the drill field in full PPE. Each student is expected to have a basic understanding of Fire Fighter Survival and RIT prior to attending this course.
Alabama Smoke Diver is a physically demanding course which requires students to be in good physical condition. Certain information submitted on the medical information questionnaire may preclude the student’s participation in the course. Learn more.

Application process
The Alabama Smoke Diver application period will be open from March 1 through August 1. Once the application period closes, all applicants will be entered into a random drawing to fill 50 class seats. Applicants will be notified within the week if they are selected to attend. Each applicant selected will be given until August 20 to complete registration and pay tuition for the class. If an applicant does not complete registration and pay tuition in the allotted time, the next randomly drawn applicant will be selected and notified. The alternative applicant will be given five (5) business days to complete registration and pay tuition.
The application list will remain active until the start date of the Smoke Diver class to allow for additional drawings so that all slots are filled. Students who withdraw from the class are eligible for a full refund up to 14 days prior to the class start date. Any selected applicant who fails to complete payment, by either August 20 or the five (5) business day window that they are notified, will have their name removed from the class roster, and the available seat(s) will be filled through an additional random drawing from the remaining applicant pool.
Once the class begins, the application list will be deleted, and a new application period will open in March of the following year. There will not be a waitlist for this course.
Beginning March 1, apply through the Smoke Diver Enrollment Selection Pool here.
