Although the Alabama Fire College does not offer scholarships or financial aid, the following are resources that may assist with funding your education.

Jefferson County EMS Workforce Development Program

Individuals who live or work in Jefferson County and are admitted into Alabama Fire College’s programs for Emergency Medical Services personnel, including Emergency Medical Technicians, Advanced Emergency Medical Technicians, and Paramedics, are eligible for scholarships covering tuition and supplies.

Alabama Volunteer Rescue Student Tuition Program

Volunteering as an EMT, AEMT, and Paramedic increases the worker’s experience and helps local communities. In order to qualify for the Alabama Volunteer Rescue Student Tuition Program, the applicant must commit – and show verification of a commitment – to at least two years of service to a volunteer fire or rescue squad. Volunteer fire departments, rescue squads, ambulance services, or their associations who pay for students’ tuition costs upfront are eligible. AFC Paramedic Program Scholarship

The Alabama Fire College and Personnel Standards & Education Commission extends an invitation to apply for an EMS Scholarship for the Paramedic Class beginning September 18, 2024. Please submit a complete application by July 26, 2024 to be eligible for consideration.

Application pre-requisites: Proof of completion of EMT training from the Alabama Fire College and proof of completion or registration in the AEMT program at the Alabama Fire College. All pre-requisites must be met prior to enrolling in the EMS program.

The costs covered by the scholarship include tuition ONLY (does not include uniforms, book, fees, etc.). This scholarship award has no cash value.

The Beacon® Scholarship for Rural America

The Beacon® Scholarship for Rural America will award $1,000 scholarships to ONE winner for the Spring and TWO winners for the Fall semester, to graduating high school seniors, current college students or adult learners planning to enroll in an accredited college program.

Bryant Gladney Paramedic Education Scholarship

“The Bryant Gladney Paramedic Education Scholarship is for students who are attending a program to become a Paramedic. We are looking for students who display a strong passion for serving their community and who plan to pursue a life-long career in emergency medicine. We award four $1,500 scholarships per semester.” (gladneyfoundation.org)

Chief Lawrence J. Nemec Jr. Memorial Scholarship for Volunteer EMTs / FFs

Any high school, undergraduate, or graduate student who has financial need and works as a volunteer EMT or firefighter may apply for this scholarship.

IAFC Foundation Scholarships (Multiple)

“The IAFC Foundation recognizes the complex world in which first responders operate. Science, technology, communications, and policy are constantly changing and evolving. It’s critical that our first responders master the challenges of today and tomorrow. The IAFC Foundation helps ensure that our men and women are prepared to meet these challenges by providing opportunities to support their educational needs.” (iafcf.org)

Jerry Garrett and Starlinne Sullivan Memorial EMS Scholarship

The Jerry Garrett and Starlinne Sullivan Memorial Scholarship has been established for Alabama residents enrolled in the field of healthcare and is geared specifically toward those in the nursing and EMS fields.

NAEMT Foundation Scholarships

“The NAEMT Foundation works to strengthen and build a better future for EMS through funding EMS education and research. One of the challenges facing EMS today is recruitment and retention of EMS practitioners. In an effort to address this challenge, the NAEMT Foundation is offering scholarship opportunities to individuals interested in pursuing a career in EMS.” (naemt.org)

NFFF's Senator Paul S. Sarbanes Scholarship

“When a firefighter dies in the line of duty, the family must adjust to life without their loved one, who often was the primary financial provider. Many grieving spouses are left to care for children without adequate financial assistance. To support their families, they may need additional job skills or education. Children left without a parent need to know they still have a chance to attain their educational dreams.” (firehero.org)

Robert F. Lawson Fund for Careers that Care Scholarship

This scholarship seeks to support high school and undergraduate students who intend to spend their careers helping other people. Any low-income high school senior or undergraduate student who is planning to pursue a career in healthcare, social work, government, education or a related field may apply for this scholarship.

Skylar's Hope Scholarship

This scholarship seeks to honor the memory of Skylar Holly by supporting students who share his passion for helping others and making the world safer. Any high school senior, undergraduate, or trade school student who is pursuing a career as a first responder (firefighter, police officer, EMT, etc.) may apply for this scholarship opportunity.

VFW Youth Scholarships (Multiple)

“The VFW is dedicated to promoting patriotism and investing in our future generation. If you are a democracy-loving high school student interested in a $35,000 college scholarship or a patriotic middle school student interested in winning $5,000, these scholarships may be for you.” (VFW.org)
