This course is based on NFPA 1006: Standard for Technical Rescue Personnel Professional Qualifications, Chapter 11, 2021 Edition. This course will equip the student with the skills and knowledge to be able to prepare and operate in a search and rescue environment, evaluate lost person behavior, determine the need for specialty resources, apply appropriate search patterns, locate and process evidence, navigate in a wilderness environment, and manage certain aspects of search and rescue.

Special Equipment:
- ANSI approved Safety Helmet
- Rescue type gloves or work gloves (not extrication gloves)
- Clothing suitable for outside activities (long-sleeved shirt and pants, coveralls)
- OSHA approved safety glasses
Recommended Materials:
- 24-hour SAR Pack American Hiking Society “The 10 Essentials”
- Daypack/backpack
- Appropriate footwear
- Map and compass/GPS
- Bring your own if you have one or the class will supply a compass for the week
- Extra water and a way to purify it
- Extra food
- Rain gear and extra clothing
- Safety items
- Fire starting materials, portable light with extra batteries, and safety whistle
- First aid kit
- Knife or multi-purpose tool
- Sunscreen and sunglasses
