Hazardous Materials/WMD – Technician
December 11
This course is based on NFPA 470 (1072): Standard for Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Emergency Response Personnel Professional Qualifications. Designed for the student already trained at the Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations level; this course develops the skills already learned and provides in-depth training in the mitigation of hazardous materials incidents. Through both classroom and practical training, the student becomes familiar with health and safety issues, incident management, hazard and risk analysis, personal protective clothing, and decontamination.
Due to the NFPA standard change, the Hazardous Materials/WMD Technician course will now be certified under NFPA 470: Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Standard for First Responders. The effective date of this change will be January 1, 2024.
Please Note: We have implemented a new book for this course. It is the Jones & Bartlett, Hazardous Materials, Managing the Incident, 5th edition. This book will be used for all courses starting on December 1, 2023. You can purchase this book through our AFC Bookstore.
