Volunteer Certification Requirements

InState Volunteer Emergency Services Training

The InVEST program was developed for the Volunteer fire service, to recognize training and education. Courses can be completed in any order, but one must complete all of the steps in order to receive a coin for that particular level, and all pre-requisites must be met.

Basic

  • Volunteer Firefighter
  • Hazardous Materials Awareness & Operations
  • AND First Responder (minimum) or Emergency Care Provider

Intermediate

  • Firefighter II
  • AND Fire Instructor I
  • AND Fire Officer I
  • AND Fire Dept Safety Officer (FDSO: HSO or ISO)
  • AND Apparatus Operator (any level)

Advanced

  • Fire Instructor II
  • AND Live Fire Instructor
  • AND EMT Basic

OR

  • Fire Instructor II
  • AND Live Fire Instructor
  • AND (4) additional certification courses (for a total of 160hrs)
  • AND 20hrs of non-certification courses

Master

  • (1) 16hr non-certification course
  • AND Paramedic License
  • AND 1 certification course (not already used)

OR

  • (1) 16hr non-certification course
  • AND Intermediate/Advanced License
  • AND (2) certification courses (not already used)

OR

  • (1) 16hr non-certification course
  • AND (7) certification courses
