The Alabama Fire College and Personnel Standards & Education Commission extends an invitation to all volunteer fire fighters and rescue squad members to apply for a fee waiver for Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Life-Paced EMT.
Apply nowTen volunteer fire fighters/rescue squad members to be awarded fee-waivers for EMT programs!
Nationally and within the State of Alabama, medical calls account for roughly 66% of all fire department responses. The need for trained EMS personnel is greater than ever before. For many, tuition costs and the investment of time are insurmountable constraints in the advancement of their education and training, even though they have a heart for service and are interested in attending courses to benefit themselves and their communities.
If you would like to further your career in Emergency Medicine, and are currently an active volunteer fire fighter or rescue squad member, we are offering the opportunity to apply for a fee-waiver for our EMT program. TEN individuals will be chosen through the submission of an essay and application. The Alabama Fire College has two choices for the EMT program: attendance in person, on campus in Tuscaloosa or through a life-paced program.
Education and training provide fire fighters with the knowledge, awareness, and skills to perform their work safely, allowing them to avoid hazards that could place themselves and others at risk. Knowing the majority of emergency responses in Alabama are for medical calls, it is incumbent upon the Alabama Fire College to find means to assist in providing education and training that will directly benefit emergency responders and their communities. Even though there will only be 10 fee-waivers awarded, we highly encourage anyone who is interested to apply to attend this free training.
