Emergency Vehicle Operator - Ambulance
This two day, 16 hour course trains students to operate emergency vehicles so that vehicle, equipment, crew, and patients are delivered safely and efficiently and the safety of the public is assured during all phases of the delivery of emergency medical services (EMS) involving the ambulance. Topics covered include legal aspects of ambulance operation; radio and hand signal communication skills; ambulance types and operation, ambulance readiness, inspection, maintenance, and repair; navigation and route planning; normal and high-risk driving situations and the appropriate driving skills for both; safety considerations for passengers, patients and their family, the crew, and the ambulance. Students spend Day 1 in the classroom and Day 2 learning driving skills on a road course.
