Understanding and Fighting Basement Fires

Over the years many firefighters have died fighting fires on a lower level than the front entry point. During the summer of 2017 the International Society of Fire Service Instructors (ISFSI) in partnership with UL Firefighter Safety and Research Institute (UL-FSRI) with funding from the Assistance to Firefighters Grants (AFG) conducted a series of tests to improve firefighter safety. The tests were conducted on single family test fixtures that represented structures with basements, and the results from those test were used to develop training for firefighters across the nation. The Alabama Fire College will host two grant funded eight hour courses entitled “Understanding and Fighting Basement Fires” delivered by ISFSI. Courses are free to firefighters and with the assistance of Decatur Fire and Rescue and Trussville Fire and Rescue. The courses will be given at two locations. See the links below for event details:
