Rescue Technician: Surface Water Refresher
A course
designed to provide hands on training that will allow students to stay up to
date in the field of surface water rescue. The course will consist
primarily of outside skills practice of the pertinent job performance
requirements of the NFPA 1006, Standard for Rescue Technician
Professional Qualifications.
A course that will
review the student in: water hydrology, preplanning water sites, safety,
self-rescue, boat operations, in-water/shore-based rescues, rope techniques,
highline rescues, and command of water incidents. A good understanding of
rope techniques and knots is highly recommended, but not a requirement.
Note:
This is a very physically demanding course which requires you to be in good
physical condition and you must be a competent swimmer.
Special equipment required:
Water helmet or climbing helmet with holes for
draining (no fire fighting helmets), wetsuit or drysuit, water boots
or tennis shoes, water gloves, knife, whistle and Coast Guard approved Type
III personal flotation device.
