We are pleased you have enrolled in a course with the Alabama Fire College/Shelton State Community College. 

 Montgomery GI Bill - Active Duty (MGIB)

The MGIB program provides up to 36 months of education benefits. This benefit may be used for degree and certificate programs, flight training, apprenticeship/on-the-job training and correspondence courses. Remedial, deficiency, and refresher courses may be approved under certain circumstances. Generally, benefits are payable for 10 years following your release from active duty. This program is also commonly known as Chapter 30.

 Montgomery GI Bill - Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR)

The MGIB-SR program may be available to you if you are a member of the Selected Reserve. The Selected Reserve includes the Army Reserve, Navy Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve and Coast Guard Reserve, and the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard. This benefit may be used for degree and certificate programs, flight training, apprenticeship/on-the-job training and correspondence courses. Remedial, deficiency, and refresher courses may be approved under certain circumstances.  This program is also known as Chapter 1606.

 If you wish to receive reimbursement through your Montgomery GI Bill benefits, you must complete the following steps required by the Veterans Administration and Shelton State Community College to complete your process.   

  • Complete VA Form 22-1990, Application for VA Education Benefits and submit this form to the following address:

  • If you are applying for reimbursement through Chapter 30 Active Duty, you must submit with your Form 22-1990 a copy of your DD Form 214, Report of Separation to Shelton State Community College at the above listed address.

  • If you are applying for reimbursement through Chapter 16 Selected Reserve, you must submit with your Form 22-1990 a copy of your Form 2384-1, Notice of Basic Eligibility to Shelton State Community College at the above listed address.
