INCIDENT
COMMAND SYSTEM: FOR EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES
Incident Command /
Management (ICS/EMS) is a concept given considerable attention within the
fire service. Emergency medical service (EMS) personnel may have varied
experience and educational backgrounds regarding the subject matter. Many
emergency medical and fire service personnel believe that they have a
command system, when actually what they have is a departmental chain of
command. This course should help students recognize the importance of an
effective Incident Command System (ICS) and understand the components of the
system as they relate to EMS incidents.
It is extremely important
that the students realize that the Incident Command System applies to EMS
incidents in small and large agencies, at simple and complex incidents, and
in career and volunteer organizations.
Students must be allowed to
compare the benefits of the ICS to their own agency or jurisdiction to
demonstrate to themselves that the effective implementation of the ICS and
its subsequent use will have a positive effect on their incident management.
Necessary forms used by departments in order to request and schedule
courses for their areas. These forms are not for the field student.
