FIRE
GROUND HYDRAULICS
The Fire Ground Hydraulics
course is designed to familiarize the student with the basic principles of
hydraulics and the application of these principles to actual fireground
operations. This course will provide the student with the knowledge and
skills needed to develop basic fire streams. This short course in fireground
hydraulics may serve the student as an initial step in developing the
apparatus operator competence.
Specific course topics
include:
- Fundamentals of
hydraulics
- Theory of drafting
- Calculating fire stream
requirements, with emphasis on basic rule-of-thumb methods
The principles,
calculations, and methods will be illustrated through practical applications
utilizing the equipment resources of the host department or agency. This
course is recommended for all fire service personnel.
Necessary forms used by departments in order to request and schedule
courses for their areas. These forms are not for the field student.
