Basic Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA)
The environment in which emergency responders
must operate today has evolved into a highly complex and hazardous arena.
The hazards encountered, whether natural or manufactured, are serious
concerns for emergency responders. We must protect ourselves in order to
protect those we serve.
The Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) course is
designed to provide the student with an opportunity to acquire a working
knowledge of the self-contained breathing apparatus utilized by the local
authority. Lecture and discussion sessions along with selected visual aids
are the medium used to survey topics such as fire fighter safety and
survival, respiratory hazards, SCBA equipment inspection, care and
maintenance, along with user limitations.
Practical skills such as donning, doffing, normal operations
and emergency operations are developed through specific scenario evolutions.
This course is recommended for all emergency service personnel wishing to
expand their knowledge of SCBA.
Necessary forms used by departments in order to request and schedule
courses for their areas. These forms are not for the field student.
