9/11 Memorial Service

On
the morning of September 11, 2007, the Alabama Fire College held a memorial
service marking the sixth anniversary of the terrorists’ attack that
destroyed the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers. In that attack, 343 New
York City fire fighters lost their lives while attempting to rescue victims
inside the towers. On September 11, 2001, in New York, Washington, D.C.,
and Pennsylvania, 2,974 people were killed. In our country’s continuing
effort to fight terrorism, 3,774 U.S. soldiers have died in Iraq to date.
Alabama Fire College
Executive Director Allan Rice reminded all
in attendance to continue to focus on the mission of making a difference in
their communities. He encouraged all to remember those who have made the
ultimate sacrifice and those families who have endured the tremendous pain
of loss. Mr. Rice stressed the importance of never becoming indifferent to
the needs of others.
Todd Eddy, captain at
Bessemer Fire Department and employee of the Alabama Fire College, called
for a moment of silence and gave the closing prayer. All classes held at
the Fire College were dismissed to
attend the service.
