Coach Joe Kines - Looking for a good lead dog?
By Christy Ryland

Good humor with a Southern charm is what Coach Joe Kines brought to the fire chiefs of Alabama during the 2008 Fire Chiefs Conference in Tuscaloosa. He told stories about Southern cooking, bird hunting, football and community leadership.

Coach Kines stated that whether it is football, business, or personal goals, you should have a plan to be successful. A successful plan starts with a mission statement that reflects the essence of what you are striving to achieve. After with the mission statement, you then develop the processes it will take to meet the mission statement.

Preparation, preparation, preparation, according to Coach Kines, is the tool that helps you to achieve your goals. Stay focused and strong, and treat people with respect. Above all, remember that people are your most important assets.

Coach Kines said, “You’ve got to know where you are going and how to get there; otherwise, you may not reach your goal. You should try to find a way to do your job faster, better, and safer than before. Build a good team. Look at their strengths and weaknesses, and use each individual in the process to grow and advance the team, and to reach the goal.”
