Dennis
Merrifield for the Southeastern Association of
Fire Chiefs
Dennis
Merrifield, president of Southeastern Association of Fire Chiefs,
presented information about the organization to attendees at the 2007
Alabama Fire Chiefs’ Executive Development Conference in Tuscaloosa.
Dennis provided a
historical background of the SEAFC and promoted special events such as
the summer conference and Fire Rescue. He also gave the latest
statistics of the SEAFC. To date, the Southeastern Association of Fire
Chiefs has 2300 members in comparison to the National Fire Chiefs’
Association which has 13,000 members. During the last election, only 23%
of SEAFC members voted. Therefore, he encouraged
conference attendees to
become active participants in the voting process held within the
association.
Member states in the
Southeastern Association of Fire Chiefs are Mississippi, Tennessee,
Kentucky, Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina,
Georgia, Florida, and Alabama.
Mr. Merrifield spoke of
the importance of staying involved with the organization so that, as
members, fire chiefs can improve as leaders and, in turn, improve their
departments.
