Muscular Dystrophy
Association of Alabama Presents
Awards During Alabama Fire Chiefs’ Conference
Alabama
Fire Departments work tirelessly to raise money for the Muscular
Dystrophy Association. The money assists with mobility and communication
devices as well as helps to pay for certain medical assistance. Through
the efforts of Alabama fire fighters, there is ongoing support for
research. This means hope for our future generation.
The Muscular Dystrophy
Association (MDA) gives awards yearly at the Fire Chiefs’ Conference
held in Tuscaloosa each winter. The first award given this year was
“Rookie of the Year,” which went to Muscle Shoals Fire Department who
raised $3274 and to Foley Fire Department who contributed $3381.
The next award, the
“Highest Percent of Increase,” was presented to Troy Fire Department who
donated $4108.
Golden Axe Awards are
based on population. The first awards recognized the department coming
from a community with a population of 10,000 and below: Orange Beach
Fire Department raised $22,000 which doubled their contributions from
last year.
Crenshaw County Fire
Department received a Golden Axe Award in the population category of
