John Croyle Gives a
Motivational Speech
You
may recognize him as a star athlete, but to more than 1300 children John
Croyle is a hero. Remembered as the All-American who helped take the
Crimson Tide to the 1973 National Championship, Croyle now spends his
days providing a safe and loving home for children who have been abused,
neglected, and orphaned. His decision to reject a career in professional
football in favor of establishing a haven for children is well-known.
For over thirty years, John and his wife Tee, along with their
biological children, have dedicated themselves to providing a stable and
supportive Christian home for children who lack such a foundation.
On Wednesday, February
7, 2007, the attendees of the annual luncheon of the 2007 Fire Chiefs’
Executive Development Conference had the privilege of witnessing
firsthand the passion Mr. Croyle has for teaching others what he has
learned through his courageous venture known as the Big Oak Ranch. At
times his message was humorous and at other times deadly serious, but it
seemed to touch the hearts of all present. Geared toward the majority of
the audience who were firemen as well as fathers and husbands, Croyle’s
advice was applicable to everyone: do your best in every aspect of your
life, and prepare your children to do the same.
Mr. Croyle spoke of how
as parents we can make our children spiritual, physical, mental, and
emotional “orphans.” By our actions, as members of society, we not only
let our families down, but we also let down our community. His message
to fire fighters was that handling family issues poorly hinders their
ability to give their attention to the job at hand and carry it out
effectively, consequently, endangering the lives of community members.
Mr. Croyle was
captivating and inspiring, and attendees will not soon forget his
message. As a speaker, Croyle holds nothing back and allows his emotion
and good nature to communicate his sincerity. It is evident that he
speaks from personal knowledge and experience and truly believes in his
vision. The chance to attend one of Mr. Croyle’s speaking engagements is
not an opportunity to pass up, regardless of your chosen career.
