Certification:
Pro Board accreditation
The Alabama Fire College and Personnel Standards Commission is dual
accredited by the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications
(Pro Board), also known as the National Professional Qualifications System
and the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC).
The Pro Board web address is
www.theproboard.org.
The mission of the National Board on Fire Service Professional
Qualifications (Pro Board) is to establish an internationally recognized
means of acknowledging professional achievement in the fire service and
related fields.
The primary goal of the Pro Board is to accredit
organizations to certify uniform members of public fire departments, both
career and volunteer. However, other organizations with fire protection
interests may also be considered for participation in the accreditation
process. Accreditation is generally provided at the State or Provincial
level to the empowered certifying authority of that jurisdiction.
The IFSAC web address is
www.ifsac.org. The mission of IFSAC is to increase the level of
professionalism of the fire service through accreditation of those entities
who work with Assemblies within the Congress, for the accreditation of fire
service training
and/or education, by increasing the coordination of efforts between the
Assemblies of the Congress, and serve as a mechanism of arbitration on
issues of debate between Assemblies.
Accreditation serves as an affirmation that the
certification courses of the Alabama Fire College meet the standards of
excellence as defined by both accrediting bodies.
Each agency must be re-accredited every five years to assure that the
approved levels of quality have been maintained. The next Pro Board site
visit will be in 2009 and IFSAC in 2010.
