Alabama Fire College Risk WatchTM
Program
The
Alabama
Fire
College, recognizing the problem of unintentional
injuries in Alabama, has taken an aggressive approach to eliminating
this problem. Following the guidelines of the National Fire Protection
Association's Champion Program, the
Alabama
Fire
College will select each year, communities to implement
Risk Watch™. In our third year of implementation, we have helped 17 communities
implement Risk Watch™ in their local schools.
The following are the
results from the Alabama Fire College Risk Watch™ Program:
In the first two years of
the program, the
Alabama
Fire
College has reached 25,228 students, for a total of 386,516 student contact
hours.
2000 was the second year
of implementation for the Risk Watch™ program in
Alabama. Currently, we have 28 communities participating
in the Risk Watch™ program under the direction of the Alabama Risk Watch™
Management Team. Each year, we choose up to 10 new sites to implement the
program, until we reach full implementation in every school in
Alabama.
The following is an
overall reflection of the combined pre and posttest scores for all the sites.

The knowledge change from
pre test to post test is outstanding. The children are not only retaining the
information they receive as part of the Risk Watch™ program, they are also
using this information to make decisions on their personal well being and safety.
